Stakeholder Consultation

Proposal to provide an Instrument Approach Procedure for Runway 03

LBHA Runway 03 Supplementary Consultation website home page

Welcome to the home page for London Biggin Hill Airport’s proposal to install an Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP) for aircraft approaching the airport to land from the south-west. The main aims of this investment are to:

  • Reduce the number of people and properties overflown at low level by aircraft landing at Biggin Hill Airport using the current navigation facilities,
  • Improve the overall safety of the airport’s operations by providing state-of-the-art navigation equipment, and
  • Reduce the environmental impact of the airport’s current operations by providing a more efficient approach path.

This supplementary consultation follows on from a wide-ranging initial consultation carried out between November 2015 and February 2016. It concerns a variation to the original proposal which more closely follows the line of existing transport infrastructure such as the A23 trunk road and the M25. For your reference, the original consultation and the collated responses to it are available below.

We (Biggin Hill Airport) are committed to engage in a wide-ranging consultation with our neighbours, MPs, local government, local interest and airport user groups. But beyond that, we want to hear from you.

This supplementary consultation – which will run until April 2017 – is being carried out in accordance with the procedures laid down by the UK Cabinet Office and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

The further development of Biggin Hill Airport (now celebrating its Centenary Year) is a key part of the London Infrastructure Plan, but we want to ensure that it represents the best interests of Greater London – and as a potential local job-creator – without disrupting the lives of our neighbours.

The documents you can access below are both lengthy and technical – but that is what the authorities require. Everyone can access the documents, and everyone’s response is welcomed. Whether you’re an airport user, a neighbour, a company or community representative, we want your feedback.
